Young Women Activist Network for Sustainable Development
Phnom Penh- 15th Feb 2015, SILAKA organization was conducted a meeting on “Compilation and strengthening network of young women activists to sustainable development” at Eden Park Restaurant.
Objectives:
- Strengthening and solidarity network of young women activists among 25 activists in Kompong Thom province and form organizational chart and set out with clear goals.
- To develop strategies and action plan towards the women’s movement for gender equality.
- To present Beijing+20 and set out the priority issues from network of young women activists to identify agenda of CSW-59
In her opening speech, Ms. Thida Khus executive director of SILAKA said that nearly 25% of Cambodia women are victims but must remember that the Women is the Peaceful Problem Solver and Honesty. She also mentioned about One Billion Rising in purposes to gather women men and all generation people to dance together in order to show what Man can Dance and Women can Dance too and to end violence on women
In this meeting the women participants raised up their challenges such as, Health Center: health center staff work unethical, lack of technical material; Education: school far from home, parents are careless on women’s study, teachers public school open part-time class by reduced full-time working; Immigration: Children leave their homeland to find job and drop out school…
Ms. Chan Sophaon Program Coordinator of Women in Politics of SILAKA was presented about achievements of activities of young women activists in Kompong Thom province, and gives recommendation to enhance women participation and relationship, and learn to work as network in order to easily share knowledge and get new experiences.
Finally, young women activists in Kompong Thom province showed a willingness to work as a team in order to get successful and wish to see gender equality in society.
